FASE Snowboard Binding Guide

Nobody enjoys sitting in the snow, fighting a frozen strap while everyone else lines up at the lift. FASE bindings fix that. They keep the feel of a traditional two-strap binding and make strapping in far faster.

FASE (Fast Entry Snowboard Binding System) is available at Boardertown through three brands: Jones, Bataleon and Rome. For 2027, each brand has expanded its FASE lineup, so there are now six bindings to choose from, from playful freestyle setups to expert-level carbon freeride machines. This guide explains how the system works, what each binding does well, and how to pick the right one.

What Are FASE Snowboard Bindings?

FASE is a patented fast-entry system that has been in development for more than seven years. It isn't a step-in system, and it doesn't ask you to change how you ride. It is a two-strap binding with a quicker way in and out.

Step-in systems usually need specific boots or change how the board feels underfoot. FASE works with:

- Any snowboard boots
- Any snowboard
- Virtually any insert patterns
- Any riding style, from park to powder

If you've ever wished for the speed of a step-in with the control of straps, this is that.

How FASE Fast-Entry Bindings Work

Four features make the system work:

1. AutoBack highback. Step in and the highback closes automatically. When you lift your heel to unstrap, it opens again. There are no levers to fumble with.

2. Pedal entry. On models with a heel-cup pedal, you press it as you step in to lock the highback in place.

3. FastStrap ankle strap. The extended ankle strap stays connected, so you can tighten it one-handed with just a pull or two.

4. Set-and-forget toe strap. The toe strap stays pre-set between runs, so you only need to adjust the ankle strap.

The system is built into the heel cup without adding bulk, and the forward-folding highback helps avoid snagging on the lift chair.

Jones Mercury FASE: Freeride and Powder

The Jones Mercury FASE is the pick for riders who spend their time in steeper, deeper and more variable terrain. It has a mid-stiff, lively flex (4/5) and is aimed at expert riders.

Key features

• Fusion XR Baseplate for board feel and edge power

• AsymFlex Highback with tool-less forward lean adjustment

• ImpactCush Pad with 3° cant to absorb chatter

• DualFlex Ankle Strap and Adaptive Fit Toe Strap

• Alloy buckles with LSR 2.0 Auto-Lock technology

Specs at a glance

• Weight: 895 g per binding (Medium)

• Terrain ratings: 10/10 freeride and powder, 9/10 all-mountain, 6/10 freestyle

Why you'll like it: Locked-in precision and all-day comfort. The one-piece uni-body construction is stiffer than some competitors and gives strong response when you're charging.

Best for: Expert riders who want a lively, comfortable freeride binding with fast entry.

Jones Zenith FASE: Maximum Power for Expert Riders (New for 2027)

If the Mercury is the all-rounder, the Jones Zenith FASE is the powerhouse. It's a carbon-injected, expert-level binding developed with Freeride World Tour champion Victor de Le Rue. It's built to send energy straight to your edges on steep, technical terrain and hold steady at speed.

Key features

• Carbon-injected, asymmetric Fusion+ XR-C Baseplate for instant response and power

• AsymCore Carbon Highback with an extended asymmetrical wing and a reinforced spine for heelside power

• VertEx Ankle Strap, with soft PU foam over a structured spine for a connected fit

• Adaptive Fit Toe Strap and alloy buckles with the updated LSR 2.1 Auto-Lock

• Tool-less strap and 2-position forward lean adjustment

• Folding highback for chairlifts, skating and storage

Specs at a glance

• Flex: stiff and powerful (9/10)

• Terrain ratings: 10/10 freeride and powder, 9/10 all-mountain, 7/10 freestyle

• Universal mounting disc: for 4x4, 2x4 and EST/Channel boards

Why you'll like it: Carbon construction gives you a direct, high-response ride without extra bulk. The FASE system is built into the heel cup, so a Medium measures the same length as other Jones bindings.

Best for: Expert riders chasing steep lines, high-speed carves and committed descents.

Bataleon Blaster FASE: Playful All-Mountain Riding

The Bataleon Blaster FASE (Blaster AsymWrap FASE) suits riders who want freeride response with a freestyle attitude. It's stiffer than the Mercury's lively feel but softer than the Rome Katana.

Key features

• Baseplate with metal heel cup for durability

• Smaller mounting disk for extra lateral flex

• Adjustable heel cup for boot centring

• Extended 2-position ankle strap and fixed toe strap

• Core FASE pedal entry system

Why you'll like it: The compact disk gives more lateral flex, so it feels playful on groomers, in the trees and on powder days, while still delivering a dialled-in fit.

Best for: Intermediate to advanced all-mountain riders who like to carve, jib and play on the way down. Available in Men's & Women's.

Bataleon Ghost FASE: Lightweight and Minimal (New for 2027)

The Bataleon Ghost FASE is designed to feel like there's nothing there. It's the newest addition to Bataleon's fast-entry line, and it strips things back to the essentials: a light, direct connection to your board and a medium flex that suits the whole mountain.

Key features

• MonoFrame chassis: a one-piece chassis with fibreglass for responsiveness and a natural board flex

• EVA sub-base pad with the smallest possible hard-plastic footprint, which absorbs chatter and cushions flat landings

• Ultralightweight Ghost Highback with adjustable forward lean

• AutoBack hands-free entry, and a highback that folds flat for skating and storage

• Adjustable toe ramp to centre your boot and reduce heel and toe drag

• Tool-free footbed removal

• Fits 4x4 and 2x4 patterns

Why you'll like it: It's lightweight and versatile, with enough support for carving and enough freedom for the park. It's also a more accessible way into FASE than the premium models.

Best for: Intermediate to advanced riders who want one medium-flex binding for park, piste and powder. Available in Men's, Women's and Youth sizing.

Rome Katana AW FASE: Stiff, Powerful and Customisable

The Rome Katana FASE is built for riders who want a stiff, responsive binding and a highly customisable fit. It's among the stiffest bindings in the FASE range.

Key features

• Baseplate with metal heel cup

• Smaller mounting disk for lateral flex

• Adjustable heel cup for centring

• Highly adjustable ankle strap with 64 positions

• Fixed toe strap and fixed highback angle for consistent power transfer

• FASE auto-snap highback with pedal activation

Why you'll like it: Strong edge control and fast energy transfer, plus a hyper-custom ankle strap fit. Fast entry means you keep your momentum between runs.

Best for: Hard chargers, carvers and aggressive all-mountain riders. Availabe in Men's and Women's versions.

Rome Volt FASE: Mellow, Freestyle-Friendly Fast Entry (New for 2027)

The Rome Volt FASE is the playful end of the range. It pairs a smooth, predictable medium flex (5/10) with Rome's best strap package, which makes it the easy-going option for park laps, side hits and relaxed all-mountain days.

Key features

• MonoFrame platform: a one-piece injected nylon baseplate for smooth, predictable response

• OmniFlex ankle straps using AuxTech, an auxetic pattern that expands evenly under pressure for a connected, comfortable hold

• FASE Kink Ladder straps with two strap positions, which keep the FastStrap more open for easier entry and exit

• AutoBack highback with hands-free entry

• BombProof one-piece forged aluminium buckles

• 2° dual-density EVA footbed for alignment and shock absorption

• Universal adjustable disc compatible with Channel, 2x4 and 4x4 patterns

Why you'll like it: It's forgiving and comfortable, with enough support to stay stable on groomers. The flex gives you room to play and progress.

Best for: Freestyle riders, progressing riders, and anyone who wants a laid-back FASE binding. Available in Men's and Women's sizing.

FASE Bindings FAQ

Do FASE bindings work with any snowboard boots?
Yes. FASE is compatible with virtually all standard snowboard boots (excluding Step On) and all standard board insert patterns, including 2x4, 4x4 and Channel).

Are FASE bindings the same as step-in bindings?
No. FASE is a two-strap binding with a fast-entry mechanism. It feels like a traditional binding, only quicker to get into.

Are FASE bindings completely hands-free?
Not quite. The highback closes for you, but you still tighten the ankle strap, which you can do one-handed.

Do FASE bindings work in deep powder?
Yes. The wide-opening ankle strap and quick entry make strapping in easier in deep snow.

Which FASE binding is best for beginners and intermediates?
The Rome Volt FASE and Bataleon Ghost FASE have medium flexes that are forgiving and comfortable. The Zenith and Mercury are aimed at expert riders.

Is there a warranty on FASE components?
Yes. FASE components carry a manufacturer's warranty.
