The Nike Air Max 95: From Running to Skate Icon
Introduced in 1995, the Air Max 95 was created by Sergio Lozano drawing inspiration from the human body. The layered upper mimicking muscle and skin, with the Air unit creating a spine. It's distinct aesthetic drew on the '90s neo-industrial aesthetic. From running to the streets, the Air Max 95 quickly transitioned into street and skate culture.
Eric Koston's Role in Skateboarding
Eric Koston's influence has spanned a generation. From his early days with Girl Skateboards, shaping street skateboarding with technical tricks and a clean style. Joining Nike SB in 2009, Koston has been at the forefront of Nike's progression in skateboarding, designing signature shoes that mix performance with personal style.
Air Max 95: Redesigned for Skateboarding
The SB Air Max 95 retains the shoes original design aesthetic refined for skateboarding. A suede and leather upper improves durability, while a redesigned sole provides for better response and boardfeel.
The Eric Koston colorway features an obsidian upper, fading to yellow - a palette that has featured strongly throughout Koston's storied career. Embossing on the toe box in Thai script pays homage to Koston's Thai heritage, while retro neon insoles add a classic feel.
